When we decided to put an addition onto our house the first order of business was to select a contractor. We interviewed four home improvement contractors and we found J. Severino Construction was the best value. Jim Severino took the time to listen to the plans we had for our house and gave us some excellent advice and ideas long before we signed a contract.
Once our decision was made, it was time to review the contract. Jim explained each step and what was required of us as well as what he was going to be responsible for. He gave us a real time estimate of how long the project would last (he told us he would be finished in November and he was completely done the beginning of November as stated), where he was going to start and the order of progression. We had work done in almost every room of our home. Jim worked with us (not for us) to plan the work around our lives.
He put in a master bedroom and bath over our garage, moved interior walls , replaced every window, installed central A/C, upgraded the electric service, added a deck (and recommended some excellent decking material)and sided the entire house. He did all this while we lived in the house.
Jim's work was fast, precise, and clean. I have done some home improvements myself and Jim's attention to detail is outstanding. When it comes to framing he is second to none. The proof of this came this past March, four years afiter our first addition, when a massive tree fell from our neighbor's yard (2 houses away) onto our house. It knocked a seven foot by three foot hole in the side wall of my son's bedroom, 3 holes in the roof and various other damage. Jim's work around the windows was the only part that did not move or show any signs of damage.
The night the tree fell, we knew exactly who we needed to fix our problem, J. Severino Construction. I called Jim that night and he was at my house early the next morning, which happened to be Sunday to inspect the house to ensure it was safe and to determine what he needed to do to protect us from further damage and the elements. His crew showed up the next day as soon as the tree was removed and put up tarps, plywood and tar paper on the roof and walls to keep out the weather etc...
Jim walked us through the whole repair/rebuild process. He made himself available when the insurance adjuster made his inspection. Jim did the walk around with the adjuster to ensure the repairs Jim saw were the same as this adjuster noted in his report.
Jim has now finished the repairs and our second addition ahead of the anticipated schedule. We now have an awesome den and my son has a bedroom most adults would want as a master bedroom.
To sum it up, Jim Severino not only has my recommendation but my gratitude. There is no other contractor I would have work in my home.
